  18.      Simply put, PHONE is a program that can be used by anyone with a
  19.      personal computer to keep track of names, addresses, and phone
  20.      numbers.
  21.  
  22.      However, it is much more than that.
  23.  
  24.      PHONE can be used by business for a sales tool and mailing list
  25.      manager. For personal use, PHONE can be used to keep track of
  26.      directions, spouse and children names, birthdays, etc.
  27.  
  28.      PHONE can print labels, and you can select which records you
  29.      want labels for. Certain zip codes, only one state, only records
  30.      tagged by you, or even label codes which can, for example, be a
  31.      sales representative's number.
  32.  
  33.      PHONE will dial your phone for you.
  34.  
  35.      PHONE is programmed with special network awareness, allowing
  36.      multiple users to access the records at the same time. It can
  37.      run on a network, or an individual PC.
  38.  
  39.      PHONE can be customized for your own choice of screen colors,
  40.      your printer, and your name on reports. It is programmed to run
  41.      on computers with mono or color monitors.
  42.  
  43.      PHONE will give you help when needed. What is the abbreviation
  44.      for Arizona?  Press F9 and PHONE will tell you.
  45.  
  46.      PHONE can export your records to a SDF file so the Post Office
  47.      can update your address and zip code information for you. It will
  48.      also print out a zip code summary of all your records, to help
  49.      business mailers with bulk rate mailings. The bar code printing
  50.      feature can help save you postage, and speed mail delivery.
  51.  
  52.      PHONE can be used for sales and marketing, to keep track of the
  53.      last contact with a customer or prospect, and print out a list
  54.      of records who are due to be contacted.
  55.  
  56.      PHONE will Pop-up a calendar on screen to help you look up a date.
  57.  
  58.      PHONE will back up your records for you, and will even tell you
  59.      information about your computer system.

  61.      But enough advertising, let's get started......

  63.       Installing PHONE is easy. Just type INSTALL from the DOS Prompt
  64.       where your PHONE files are. The only thing you have to decide
  65.       is the drive and directory where you want PHONE installed to,
  66.       and PHONE even gives you a default suggestion you can use.
  67.       PHONE will create the directory for you if it doesn't exist.
  68.  
  69.       The install program will automatically upgrade your files from a
  70.       previous version. Just type INSTALL and use the upgrade option.

  74.    |  NOTE: If you do not have a C: or D: drive with at about 1 meg free |
  75.    |        space (a hard drive, or a large RAM drive) or if you have    |
  76.    |        any trouble with the first part of the install program,      |
  77.    |        you need to start the installation manually.                 |
  78.    |        Follow these instructions:                                   |

  80.    |        NOTE: If you are going to use a network drive to hold        |
  81.    |              temporary files, or to install PHONE to, be sure you   |
  82.    |              have proper rights to create new directories and       |
  83.    |              delete files.                                          |
  84.    |                                                                     |
  85.    |     To install to F: drive, and use F: drive to hold temporary      |
  86.    |     files, follow these steps.                                      |

  105.    |          If your compressed PHONE files are on a different drive,   |

  120.    |     When you leave the install program, you may want to delete      |
  121.    |     the temporary files and directory. If so, follow these steps.   |

  125.    |          CD\PHONE.INS          puts you in the phone.ins directory  |

  131.        PHONE DOES NOT alter your computer set-up in any way. You should
  132.        have a CONFIG.SYS file in your root directory which has, as a
  133.        minimum, the following 2 lines:
  134.     
  135.          FILES=39     (or a higher odd number)
  136.          BUFFERS=8    (or a higher number)
  137.  
  138.       IF that file doesn't exist, or the 2 lines are not in it, you
  139.       should use a text editor to create the file and/or add the 2
  140.       lines.

  142.       Before using PHONE, it is highly recommended that you read the
  143.       manual, which is in the file called PHONE.DOC. You can print
  144.       the manual by typing the following from the DOS prompt in the
  145.       directory where your PHONE files are located:

  147.           COPY PHONE.DOC PRN
  148.  
  149.       Be sure your printer is ready before typing the command. The
  150.       PHONE.DOC file contains additional information about installing
  151.       PHONE, using it, and possible errors you may encounter.

  153.       NOTE: A printed manual will be supplied when you register PHONE.

  155.       To use PHONE, just type: PHONE from the DOS prompt.
